WHO WE ARE
VYMHC is a team of young folks aged 12-24 living in Greater Victoria and on the lower Island. We aim to explore the intersections of mental health and social justice through discussions, projects, workshops and other engagement/educational opportunities.
VYMHC meetings are a space for members to learn from one another. Activism is a process, and we always prioritize "calling in" over "calling out". Collectively, we sometimes spread knowledge by sharing "info pieces", which are short presentations where members can provide insight and spark a discussion on a subject they're passionate about (usually related to intersectionality/social justice and mental health). When we need knowledge from an expert outside of the group, our partner, the Foundry Youth Clinic, supports us in finding educational resources and organizations that can facilitate workshops, training, and discussions.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is simple: to improve mental health services for young folks and reduce the stigma surrounding youth who struggle with mental health and substance use. We work to ignite positive social change in Greater Victoria and beyond while connecting youth with opportunities for mental health, harm reduction and social justice education.
In every action we take, intersectionality is a top priority. Our discussions, projects and coalition as a whole are shaped by the diverse lived and living experiences of our team.
