MEETINGS

The VYMHC meets bi-weekly via Zoom. Our meetings are a space to gather, share, discuss, learn, and grow. We begin with land acknowledgments, introductions, and a discussion question before we encourage members to share announcements and initiate discussions surrounding mental health and intersectionality. Often, a member presents an "info piece" on a topic that's relevant to them and sparks a conversation where we share similar experiences and learn together. If the group is working on a project, we announce updates and offer tasks to the group. Any projects and tasks are completely optional. Without fail, each meeting brings a list of new opportunities open to members of the group, which are often webinars, trainings, and research opportunities. Earlier this year, for example, many of our members participated in Suicide Prevention Training provided by Foundry Victoria and "Not Just Naloxone", a First Nations Health Authority training that teaches community workers how to decolonize their approach to harm reduction.

Attendance is always varied: there is never any expectation for you to come. Each member is encouraged to participate in whichever way they feel the most comfortable, which means that we will never ask anyone to speak or turn their camera on.

Meetings can be anything and everything we want them to be, as we are always looking for suggestions on how to improve our structure and flow. Sometimes we get through everything that's on our agenda and other times we just talk and enjoy each others' presence. VYMHC is a fun, inclusive, accessible space for young folks to connect and share their passions. We are always looking to examine our own narratives, challenge our beliefs, and grow as a team by exploring the intricacies and nuances of mental health and wellness.
